The Culture Laboratory Collective comprises a diverse group of artists working loosely around the question of socialcohesion within the context of aesthetic fragmentation. While focusing collectively on a synthetically established social identity the work presented paradoxically strives to break free of group-think aesthetics in favor of the individual voice, the point of dissonance opposing the attempt at collaborative cohesion. Retaining a focus on craft and the object, Culture Laboratory Collective operates as an ongoing investigation in media interchangeability and aesthetic fluidity.

ABOUT: A brief history… Culture Laboratory is a collective group of 13 artists who have a similar goal: to exhibit artwork and remain in dialogue with other artists. We hail from all parts of the United States, but a strong Texas background permeates the collective. The Culture Laboratory developed in part from the early success of the RJP Nomadic Gallery based in Lubbock, Texas. As the Nomadic Gallery expanded it became a necessity to broaden the cultural conversation. Ian F. Thomas initiated the Culture Laboratory as a way to allow engagement on a national and international level. The artist members of Culture Laboratory talk together every couple weeks in an on-line chat room format. As we converse we develop more ideas about how the group should evolve and function in the future. At times the Culture Lab can resemble a chaotic social experiment.
